To me, the "W140" S-Class is the best S-Class simply because it's the perfect blend of everything: It was the last S-Class seemingly designed with a "best at all costs" mentality, as later ones (and especially its successor, the W220) were clearly engineered to reach a certain price point. But it offers more technology and modernity than the other "best at all costs" S-Class models, simply by virtue of being newer. I also love the boxy, subdued styling, which was sadly killed off with the trying-too-hard look of the W220. The W140 was also the first S-Class to offer a V12-powered S 600 model, which cements its tremendously cool status.

I had my S320 fish tails easily before. I feel my W210 (RWD) has more stability than my W140 in rain or snow.
I cant say that , actually the opposite .
When i came down from Queensland back to Sydney ( aprox 1000 km's all night drive) , i drove into heavy rainfall , everyone in a 110km/h zone speed limit must have slowed down to about 70 or 80 km/h (stand still lol), how do i know that ?, my ex S500 was the only car that was traveling at about 120 or more km/h overtaking every single car like a flash ( i say 120 but was probably much more) , she was awesome in the rain .

Might sound unresponsible but driving the S500 thru those rainy conditions ,felt as if it wasn't raining at all to me , she was placed like a plank on the road , had new tyres that time around & the wipers worked flawless due to it's new relay , lol.

The compound and tread design of the tires determine how these beasts(or any vehicle) handle in rain and snow. I've heard that Blizzak's are incredible snow tires, and I have zero complaints about the Michelin Premier's I now ride on here in Florida.

When I traveled back to PA from Florida(12/15, 1300 miles) after I bought my S420, I was on slightly dry rotted, older Michelin MXV4's. I was greatly exceeding speed limits the entire trip thru hurricane type rain for hundreds of miles. The vehicle exceeded my expectations as I whizzed past long lines of vehicles running well under posted limits. Sure the vehicle "lifted" as I drove thru certain low spots, but I always felt I was in control, and was able to "catch" the skid easily when it wanted to get sideways. The balance of these vehicles is excellent IMO.

Regarding the worst Benz, from what I read online and hear from former owners, the smaller/cheaper Benz products seem to be a disappointment to many folks. I can assure you not ALL MB products are built to the highest standards. My reasoning leans toward... the older the better!
