Popped the Right Front Tire at 28,418 Miles and Replaced

The CLA fought with a road rut at 28,418 miles and lost. A new tire filled with nitrogen made its way onto the wheel. Rotated tires means the new tire is now on the right rear of the car. Job done.

Inspection and Taillight Bulbs at 24,524 Miles

Today, the CLA got all new rear bulbs. The warning system alerted that the back up lights were bad and that the brake lights were bad. I replaced all except the orange bulbs which I could not easily find in a parts store.

There are felt caps at the rear of the trunk inner liner that easily pull off and reveal the rear of the lighting assembly. Pinch the tangs and yank on the plug and the assembly pops right out. Undo the plug and remove the lighting assembly and replace bulbs. Reinstall in reverse order.

It also got an annual New York State inspection and passed.

On the agenda is to replace the Group 48 AGM battery and auxiliary battery as these are almost five years old and weary. It needs new windshield wipers, a new serpentine belt and a greasing of the front engine pulleys. I'll get to these as the autumn progresses.

It's an amazing automobile given its power and economy! And I find the suspension to be totally excellent despite reports to the contrary.

2000 C280 Sport Congrats on the new car. Should last until she is done with Law School. Then she can trade up. Sounds like the perfect car for this car. Good MPG, Easy to upkeep, Not much that can go wrong, AWD and CPO Warranty.

New Tires at 21,762 miles, July 12, 2018

The CPO experience is not without its surprises.

The CLA required tires suddenly. The left front tire was damaged to the point that its sidewall material was peeling off and flaking. There was a plug in the tire that leaked. On the passenger side front, the wheel was bent and then straightened out. The repairman left a sticker reporting this.

So given four year old tires, in went a new set of Bridgestones. These are the run flat version in a 225/45 R17 91W. The speed rating matches that of the car, 168 mph.

The difference in performance was astonishing. Here is a vehicle with the fuel economy of a Hyundai (12 gallon fuel tank and more than 500 miles range) and acceleration to huge speeds in just seconds. Its a speed demon with nothing but economy and performance the two operating parameters. The 4matic also comes in handy to prevent swerving and squealing the tires on acceleration.

Cabin Filter at 11,746 Miles

The CLA250 got a new cabin air filter today.

The cabin filter is located behind the glove box. Access to it is through the starboard passenger footwell. A cover is tanged on and the filter is pulled down and out. A new one is reinserted and cover replaced. Job done.

The car is a treasure. I see I'll need some extra wheels and tires as a backup. The car does not come with a spare tire and instead has run-flats.
