Received, MBZ fan clutch - $207

I finally received the $207 fan clutch from Mercedes Parts Center (which is a Mercedes dealer). I installed it plus a new thermostat and flushed the cooling system with a bottle of Prestone flush. I decided to forego the full acid cleaning (which I have done on several diesels) after reading some of the posts advising against it. Besides, every bit of the interior of the cooling system looked like new metal. I replaced the PO's green coolant with G05 and after several days of driving I have not seen temps over 85C, whereas before, 90C was the normal and 95 to 100C was common.

Thank you guys!
Earl

sbaert Nah, screw the BEHR unit.

I'd go with the Sachs unit they put in the early W210 that had the M104 engine.

mikeym So, what's the consensus?
$100 Behr version is no go.
Go with the MB version from the dealer and hope it is not Behr?

Hmmmm...not propping up Spanish made Bosch caps....have had two carbon track with low mileage on the M103. Not a confidence builder from the land of bull fighting.

Real1shepherd I hate to say it, but I think this is only going to get worse before it gets better, if it ever gets better. For yrs many of us used parts.com and were always pleased with the OE products...once you figured out their shipping chargers.

Same with the Bosch fuel pumps...country of origin.

chuckh0308 Exactly. I just figured with so many reports of the MB clutches being made by Behr, I didn't want to spend the $400 or whatever they want only to get another 15,000 mile clutch. Wish it were easier to know exactly what you will get.

I decided to live dangerously again and ordered the Fichtel-Sachs clutch/fan blade combo. Much to my surprise, the clutch is actually made by Horton in Germany, which is the brand everyone says we want. So, hopefully this one will last more than 15K miles.

An additional note on the Nissens radiator. It fits almost perfectly, but there is a plastic tab on the upper passenger side that interferes and must be removed in order to get the radiator mounted flush. I carefully ground about half of it off with my dremel. Also, the top of the radiator sits slightly lower, so you can't push the shroud all the way down. Not a big deal...still clips in place the same.
Source & price for the Horton made clutch fan, please.
