as I say to everyone - parts and information can only be accurate with the vin number supplied...........
the parts needed are:- A 000 260 04 37 Lever (reversing lever) parts kit
spec'd for 110cdi

Hi, Thanks Malcolme, I have tried 2 different dealerships and neither know what the cage is, they have sent me a diagram to identify this could you point out the part. Cheers.

its a known common problem that I have posted on many times.
you need an mb commercial dealer (they normally have the bits on the shelf.... a car dealer will need to order)
the part you want is the "reverse gear selector repair kit" and quote the vin to check it.
cost around £23 (the last one I got in december) and its a 20 minute job.
open the bonnet, on top of the gearbox is a "cage" onto which the gear cables fit.
"pop" the cables off (they push fit on nipples) with a large screwdriver..... keep them seperate and easy to identify.
undo the 2 bolts that hold the cage down (one is hidden at back on top) and remove cage
put on new cage and tighten bolts (use loctite screwlock)... pop cables back on...........

Crunching in lower gears
Hi all, I may have sold my Vito but am still in charge of maintaining my dads 110CDi, My question is... It has the usual problems selecting Reverse, second and 4th, I adjusted the cables with not much change and have ordered new cables in case they have stretched but I have noticed if you try and select any of the 3 downward gears it grinds when selecting... surely if it were a cable or mechanism problem it would be the same without the grinding?
Just to confirm it grinds when clutch is fully depressed and trying to select 2nd or 4th. If it were the clutch then it would grind getting into 1st, 3rd or 5th which it doesn't so I am wondering if it is a gearbox/syncromesh problem??
I may be going over the top and it just need some replacement cables?
Any advice would be great
