IWantedaJag PS Another thing worthy of consideration might be just to drop your existing transfer case and take it to a transmission shop. If it's just a growling bearing or a leaky seal or something like that they should be able to fix it without replacing the whole thing. It's unlikely IMHO you've completely knackered the gears.

Where are you looking? I couldn't find the carrier assembly on genuinemercedesparts.com.

Unless you can find one on Fleabay for a decent price you're probably looking at more than the car is worth to replace it.

You might find one off the same model year ML350 fits. They'll be a lot easier to come by as the ML sold well, and the R didn't.

Difference between carrier assembly and transfer case?

Hi All, so I own an

My 2008 R350 4Matic has a problem with the chain and wanted to fix or replace the transfer case but I noticed on ebay that a transfer case and carrier assembly look exactly the same but the price difference is humongous between one and the other. What is the difference?
Thank You!
