Since the first time I was there more than 30 years ago the TT has become more and more spectacular. The circuit is practically still the same, but the bikes have become more and more powerful (and beautiful ).

MotoGP racers, let alone F1 drivers, get a lot more attention & money for less risk & effort than the TT racers. These guys are quite extraordinary people … some with impressive personalities … some with unusual personalities, like Guy Martin, for instance .. LOL .. who, BTW, has never won the TT.

Here is a video that gives a rough idea of Guy Martin. He was neither the best nor my favourite, but one of the most unusual among the TT racers during his racing career. He enriched the TT in his way. Listening to him talk with his strong East Midlands accent always amuses me, even if I don‘t understand every word he says. … LOL

Hey, that‘s a Williams FW08 from the early 80‘s (when F1 cars were not ugly yet ) that Guy Martin is driving in that last video. I knew he was in Francorchamps 2 years ago working as a mechanic in the Williams team. He is actually a truck mechanic … and one of the most unusual & funny guys I‘ve ever seen at the TT on the Isle of Man.

To give some of the current top TT riders a face too, here are interviews with Peter Hickman, Dean Harrisson, James Hillier and Ian Hutchinsson (who is one of the most impressive & toughest TT riders I have seen).

The TT Sidecar races are quite spectacular too. They use 600cc engines and go around the TT course with an average speed of about 120 mph. The video was made during last year‘s final Sidecar race.

In the last two years a female French Sidecar team participated in the TT … Estelle Leblond & Mélanie Farnier (see picture). This year Estelle Leblond will participate together with a male passenger.

I love the sidecars. It really is amazing to watch. Their progression over the last couple of decades is fantastic even when they went down to the 600cc engines.

H.D., from a Nordschleife visits in short pants when my father took me along, I seem to remember side car racing on the old Nürburgring, but am not sure whether my memory is correct here.
I used to bicycle race on weekends, also owned a Dürkopp track cycle for velodrome racing, and once trialed behind the motorbike for an upcoming race in my hometown's concrete velodrome. Only did a few laps behind the very upright sitting driver, but it was quite an experience.
Btw, falling on concrete is bad enough, but I once fell on the Dortmund velodrome, which is wood, and it took the nurse a long time to pull all the little splinters.
It's like your leg is on fire, and one of my life's least favorite experiences, but I am sure crashing at the TT must be much worse.

Great short
