It seemed not easy for Jacky Ickx to deal with the extraordinarily talented young driver Stefan Bellof. I remember very well how Bellof in a Porsche 956 chased Ickx in a Porsche 962 very close in front of him around the track during the 1000 km race at Spa-Francorchanmps in 1985. During that race I stayed in the pit lane. They flew past it at incredible speed, partly less than a car length apart from each other. Watching them (and the other 956‘s) go through Eau Rouge / Raidillon (which at that time was still more of a left/right combination than today) was very impressive. … I just wish Bellof wouldn‘t have tried to pass Ickx at Eau Rouge.

You can still meet Jacky Ickx at classic racing car events occasionally and he really enjoys to talk about the racing era of the 60‘s, 70‘s and 80‘s. ... I still remember the 24h race in Spa-Francorchamps in 1966 that he won together with Hubert Hahne on a works BMW 2000TI.

A older friend who already had a drivers license had the 2000TI Alpina, probably one of the earliest Alpina cars (i don't know when the Co started operations).
I remember Hahne/Icks in the racing version of that car.
Bellof was a great talent who passed way to soon. I think one of Jacky Ickx daughters followed him into racing, and to me he is one of those all around great racers who should have had at least one Formula One World championship.
I seem to recall him getting into hot water with the FIA about questionable decisions while he was a FIA Steward.

Btw, the Royal Automobile Club site has video with Freddy Spencer and John McGuiness

The BMW 2000TI Ickx - Hahne raced. If I remember correctly, these cars were famous for lifting one wheel in tight corners.

A friends mom had the 2 dooe coupe based on the same chassis = 2000CS (pic on the right). In all my years in the US, I have seen only one.
