Bought me a 300sd about a month ago for $600. It runs pretty ok but had been sitting about 5 years and has a half a tank of 5 year old diesel in it. It puffs white smoke the whole time itís running which Iím hoping is because of the old fuel. It runs pretty bad until it warms up too. I changed the fuel filters and did the egr delete. Also did motor and trans mounts and changed the transmission fluid and filter. Iím wondering if I should try and suck out most of the diesel in it and put fresh stuff in it. Also I have yet to drive it because the rod for the throttle that goes from the firewall where itís attached to the gas pedal linkage and attaches to the rest of the linkage at the engine. Well itís no longer attached to the linkage at the engine. Iím assuming some parts vibrated loose and I canít find a replacement anywhere. If anyone has a spare and wants to sell it let me know. Right now I have vise grips holding it on and thatís good enough to move it in and out of the garage but canít really drive it like that. But Iím new and Iím not a fan of how this forum is set up to upload pics. I attached one pic of the car and now it wonít let me upload any more pics of the throttle linkage. Also not sure if this is the right spot for this post lol but yeah if anyone has a spare throttle linkage or has any tips on fixing it Iíd appreciate it a lot. Thanks for reading my long post either way.

Sucking out the old diesel and putting in a fresh tank wouldn't hurt. Not sure it'll fix your white smoke problem, though...that seems more like head gasket.

The throttle linkage should reattach easily enough. Here's the diagram from the Mercedes EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog):

Ignore the parts that have gray shading over the index numbers. Item 118 is the rod going forward from the firewall. I'm guessing spring clip 152 is missing? That looks like it's what attaches that to the rod that's item 249. If so, then you're looking for part number N 912007 008000.

The forum will let you upload more than one picture at a time once you have a few more posts (I think it's 5 or 10, bu don't quote me on that).

"Engineered like no other car in the world." That's both a bug and a feature.

doesn’t run hot so I don’t think that’s the issue. I did some more research and white smoke on a diesel is usually water in fuel or too much fuel and not all of it is burning. So I’m just gonna try to run it a lot and knock the cobwebs out and probably get some diesel purge to clean out the injectors. Also yeah I guess I’m missing that clip I’ll do some searching for it. Thanks a lot for the help. I also got me a tiny set of vise grips which makes it possible for me to drive the car. I took it for a short drive and it creates a cloud of smoke behind me so big I can’t even see the cars back there lol. The brakes also barely work the pedal goes to the floor. But it hauls ass and makes some nice turbo noise so I enjoyed it. I shall update this when I make more progress

81 300sd

I am jealous. I had a 79 and an 80 300sd. You can't hardly kill those engines. I ran one of them hot, terribly hot, and it blew the head gasket. It would still run, just white smoke pretty bad. But it still ran. They don't build them like that anymore.

x2 on the diesel purge. It probably wont fix the smoking, but it will definitely not hurt. I ran that through my $400 300d and it made a world of difference.

Best of luck
