2006 648 starting issue

Yesterday Iíve been driving around all day long in the rain itís been raining for several days. In the evening after the car was sitting in a parking lot for an hour I came out and it refused to start would crank run for one, two or 3 seconds and then shut off. After about 20 attempts it ran for 6 seconds, vary rough and quit. So the next start attempt I depressed the pedal slightly and it caught, keeping it at 950 or 1000 rpm, anything less I would feel bad misfires and would see grey smoke from tail pipe, It would try to die if I let it idle around 750 until about 5 minutes warmup. Temp at that time would be about 60C And still idle rough, but less rough. At full 90C warmup, i donít feel misfires, no smoke. Turning car off and immediately back on, it starts right up without depressing the pedal after it has fully warmed up to 90C. I donít have a scanner yet so no codes, but I do not get a MIL light on the dash. 152000 miles. Since last night, it has the same starting problems when cold and I have to depress the pedal slightly. I really need to get a Star or scanner, but which I donít know yet and carry it with me all the time. Even if the engine cools off for 20 minutes it will cough until it gets back to 90C

Any thoughts on the issue?

could there be a code for this issue that doesnít throw a MIL?

I wonder if the water sensor in the filter even works, or how it works, throws codes. Something should light up on the dash.

Geting a C4will take weeks. Should I go for a Carsoft MB2

Sounds like an o-ring leak to me, worse when cold and seals up when warm. Do a good visual inspection around all the fuel lines. Had similar problems on om606 and om613 cars, not sure the 648 set up.

Not fuel leaking out but air leaking in. Check/change the filter as well.

I changed the fuel filter on the second day, no noticible difference in starting. Today condition is the same. Air leaking in what tube? Still no MIL, had the MIL twice on the second day, nothing since, its been a week I think now. Those fuel lines would be spraying fuel if they had a leak since fuel pressure is much much higher than atmospheric pressure, or are you referring to some other lines?

Not sure about the 648, but on the 613 there are a bunch of clear plastic fuel lines in and out of filter, to low side of fuel pump and return to fuel rail. They all have orings at the connections that fail over time.

check the electrical connection on the sensor at the front end of the rail. I had a similar problem on my 05. I cleaned thing up and coated the connection with dielectric grease no issues in 2 years. There was a code, low pressure? Sorry I did not document the code.

I checked that connector, dry as a bone and no corrosion. I still have not decided on which star to get. But its not not going to be a C3 or C5 so i dont have a code. MIL came on for about 45 minutes and went off. That was only the 3rd time. Almost always necassary to depress the accelerator enough so it jumps to 1000 rpm Hold it there for a minute or less then it it will idle on its own.
