2009 ML Bluetec
Serious problem with my 09 ML320 Bluetec, 170k miles. On a trip back from Florida to Wisconsin my turbo quit and I drove it back in limp mode, burning oil at 1 quart every 500 miles. I continued to drive it while my mechanic ordered my new turbo and scheduled the repair.
The new turbo worked fine for about 1500 miles but I continued to use oil at a scary rate about 1 quart per 400 miles. Then the turbo began to quit intermittently and go into limp mode. Some days it would be fine for 100 miles and then quit for 50 miles, there were no consistent symptoms. My mechanic (Das Mechanic, in Sun Prairie Wisconsin) surmised that the oil burning was clogging up my DPF filter. We cleaned it a few times but the problem returned and now the car is completely plugged up. He is suggesting that we put on an exhaust bypass keep the turbo from choking. Will this work? it will mean re-programming my computer (expensive and risky) and I am not sure if it will stop the oil burning? Anyone with extensive experience on these engines? I am also considering a Sprinter, but not if the bluetec engine has basic faults like this. Anyone?
