Run Flats to Non & DEF Tank

Has anyone switched from run flats to standards and have a can of Fix A Flat on board since thereís no room for a spare?

Mine come with normal tires and having spare from W211 I am carrying it.
FixaFlat has limited use, so I carry rubber plugs and small compressor.
Now what that has to do with diesel?

Under the trunkís floor board is a large DEF Tank that streams its contents into the exhaust system to mitigate noxious contaminants. This tank is where the Spare Tire is usually housed. Thatís why Run Flats are standard.

That's the way GLK250s (DIESELS Kajtek ) were fitted new from dealer in Canada because of the DEF tank. In addition to the fixaflat goop, there is also a 12v compressor.

We bought a collapsible Vredstein spare and take it on long trips. It fits behind driver seat with back seats folded down. Never used it!

Otherwise we would call Roadside assistance (while under warranty) or CAA.

I love my pre-DEF 164. The whole run flat thing has always been something I wanted to avoid.

Still, at some point, I'm going to have to replace the 164, and the replacement will be another diesel...and likely a Bluetec. So...

"Engineered like no other car in the world." That's both a bug and a feature.

As in USA, there is a Canadian class action regarding Bluetecs. Basically, the emission system gets turned off below 10C (which is a good part of the time in Canada)

We still drive our 85 300D and it doesn't have much of an emission control system

Iím on my 2nd replacement TRF (Tire Run Flat) in <3 months. Total blow outs from post winter craters in the New England interstate highway system. My first replacement was on a Sunday and had to go for a non Run Flat. Iíve got three TRFís and a Standard + 1 Can of Tire Sealer. Iím going to research the flexible Spare and go with non-TRF if that spare doesnít take too much room. Otherwise Iím going to get a set of Nokian WG-3 All Weather TRFs in the Fall.
