Diesel Forum structure and what to include in posts:

I would have liked for the admins to have separated the diesel forum into AT LEAST 2 sub forums. One for pre-common rail engines(pre-1999), and one for post IDI(1999+). IDI vs. CDI have very different problems and performance characteristics, and i think at the very least deserve 2 separate forums.

But, since that doesn't seem to be the case (yet), id like to offer a couple suggestions to make browsing the diesel forum easier for people looking for help, as well as those offering help.

-include your engine number in the title of each post. This helps those browsing apply their expertise to the areas they know best.

-Include the year, make, and model of the vehicle in the beginning of the body. Sometimes there are little quirks to each chassis with the way the engine behaves and the way some repairs are approached.

I'm going to be compiling most of the om642/om648 tutorials I've done on the W211/W164 forums here just to have them all in one place.

if you guys have any other suggestions, bring them up!

Should we also differentiate the AdBlue vehicles?

I wouldn't. The only engine that split applies to is the om642. The only way the adblue om642 differs from the pre-adblue om642, is in exhaust treatment. I think those threads can be delt with in the same way the non adblue om642's are delt with.

I would appreciate #1 & #2 to be applied to the entire forum. Often I prematurely end my sessions as I tire of opening post after post of questions or comments to which I cannot contribute. Perhaps it could be made necessary/required during the registration process and then applied automatically as a prefix or suffix to the title. Yes, it is personal information but why do people join forums? to get help with their vehicles or whatever.

Cheers

After advocating for over a decade for diesel section on this forum, I would not push my expectations after we got it
Diesels subjects are not that popular on forums as the engines are rare and not too many actual owners DIY them.
I know only 2 persons who do them actively and you can guess the handles ...
That said, expecting forum members to be precise in their posts is helpless.
Years ago Greg changed his handle to "Check Codes" trying to give some hints, but if that made a difference in posting - it was not noticeable.

I do my own maintenance, but anything beyond routine filters and such I take to my indy. Too many of the procedures take STAR Diagnostics to complete, and I was never able to get mine running.

"Engineered like no other car in the world." That's both a bug and a feature.

As well as the inline and V?

K.I.S.S.

There should have been a diesel section 12 years ago. Too little too late, the forum traffic across the board is dying off faster than diesel sales in the USA.
