This may be a stupid question, but...

What is the best soap or wash to use on an '81 Mercedes? I've been told that I'm probably doing it all wrong.

You cannot go wrong with Meguiar's Gold Class soap. It works great. I'd think the only way you could do it wrong is with dish soap. That strips off all waxes and you lose paint protection.

Nobody else is chiming in here, but how wrong could I be about this brand? Meguiar's products are pretty much universal, and are engineered to be friendly to your car.

WOW! I'm shocked that there haven't been dozens of responses considering the number of good quality products on the market these days with everyone having a favorite. Coincidentally, I happen to also be a fan of Meguiar's Gold Class carwash soap.

If you're interested in other products of all kinds, I get all my detailing supplies from Autogeek.
Check here: https://www.autogeek.net/

...and you can do a Autogeek search on their website for dozens of carwash products as well as polishes, wax, etc., with most having user reviews after each product listing.

Sorry I didn't see your thread sooner. Good luck.

BTW, I strongly echo Merc96's advice about avoiding any king of dishwasher soap on the paint!
