CLS55 AMG Rear End Rotational Tapping/Banging
My 2005 CLS 55 AMG has developed a very worrying and very loud rotational tapping/banging/knocking noise in the rear. The banging speeds up as I go faster and vise versa.
I can feel a slight resistance in forward motion when the noise occurs and the car has developed a vibration at speed. Oddly the noise was originally more prominent when turning left and accelerating but now occurs all the time.
Very worrying and very embarrassing when driving around town. People are looking in confusion at the racket i'm causing!
Took it to a garage and they checked the wheel assembly thinking it was the wheel bolts hitting the parking break. They test drove it and it did not make any noise, subsequently they couldn't find anything wrong with it. 1 day later is is back with vengeance.
I'm hoping it is a flex disc issue as they are relatively cheap and easy to replace.
Booked into a Mercedes specialist garage, hopefully they can diagnose. What else could it be?
I will try and get a video to upload.
