Power Trunk Setting

I have a 2008 CLS550 and the manual shows that you can hold the power trunk button and the lid will lift all the way - same for closing. When I hold the button, it only pops the trunk. Then the trunk is extremely hard to lift manually. Also, when I use the power close button on the bottom lip of the trunk lid, it only goes down about 1/3 of the way each time I press the button. Are there settings (limiter) that I can access to make the trunk go all the way up and down?

Thanks in advance.

bring it to the dealer, they can fix it, your car should still be covered under the warranty and shouldn't cost you anything.

Can't say I hadn't thought of that; but was hoping someone knew if there are any settings that can be changed without a trip to the dealer.

You shouldn't have to touch the trunk itself to open or close. When you hold the power button on the door or press on the inside latch of the trunk handle, the trunk should lift all the way up effortlessly by itself. Pressing the close button should close all the way down securely.

i don't believe there is a setting for that within the instrument panel, maybe within a dealers STAR diagnostics tool (which I'm not familiar with)

it sounds more like mechanical failure with the motor for the trunk arm or possibly the the arm just needs to be greased to allow it to open and close all the way. That's why I just suggested bringing it to the dealer since it's faulty which is your best bet.

Makes sense then that it's a mechanical problem; the button only pops the trunk no matter how long I hold it back. Guess I have to schedule an appointment ....thanks for the advice.

Was this problem ever resolved??? My dad has a CLS550 and he appears to be having a similar issue. The trunk doesn't operate the way it should. He took it straight to the dealer and they've had it for 3 weeks and are still completely stumped. Recently, they've brought in technicians from out of state to see if they can fix it. So far the dealer has put $4,000 + into this and still can't figure it out. As you can imagine, my dad's extremely dissappointed aside from the fact he's been driving around an R-class for 3 weeks. Any ideas??? Thanks.

No, I haven't had a chance to get it to the dealer yet. It's quite the pain in the rear, though.
