Looks like i'll be doing service B for myself

Ive got a 2016 CLS550 and its time for service B. I schedule a service appointment with the dealership near me (Pembroke Pines, Florida) and ask for an estimate of what it would cost. Service Advisor tells me aprox $1300. Nope, i dont think so

Has anyone else done service B, and if so where are you located and about how much did it cost?

Anyways, I just now purchased via Amazon...
--oil filter (oem part 276 180 00 09 - based on the part that was listed on my service A from dealership)
--mityvac 7201
--mobile-1 5w-40 formula M motor oil (approved for MB 229.5)
--engine air filter (oem part 278 094 00 04)
--cabin filter (compatible with oem part 2128300318)

as soon as it all arrives, it looks like i'll be doing most of service B myself. i'll update this thread to let you all know how it went.

does anyone know if oil filter part 276 180 00 09 is indeed a fleece filter?
can anyone recommend the correct oil filter wrench to use for CLS550?
service B includes "Clean water cowling to ensure proper drainage"; any advice on doing this?

any advice on DIY maintenance is more than welcomed (oil change, replace engine air filters, replace cabin air filter, etc).

I dont believe in luck.
I believe in hard work and smart choices.

fyi, turns out you dont need to go out of your way to get a "oil filter wrench"

looking in my garage i found the following which will do just fine.......

took a while for me to get the parts from Amazon, but they finally came in (MityVac, oil fiter, 5W-40 oil).

however, ive already run into a little snag.

I ordered oil filter A2761800009 (this was what was even listed on my invoice from dealer for service A). however that part does not fit my 2016 CLS550
Furthermore, when I removed the current filter I have an its actually a "Hengst AMG A2781840125"
So the dealership invoiced the wrong oil filter. Go figure!

I will now order a ECOGARD X10186 Cartridge Engine Oil Filter

what i ordered...
OEM A2761800009

the oil filter that was currently in the CLS
Hengst AMG A2781840125

what i will now order
ECOGARD X10186 Cartridge Engine Oil Filter

Hello sir,

I am Amarjiit pandde, a student at the University of Arizona. I am planning to buy a 2012 to 2014 Mercedes cls 550. I am worried about operation cost of the Mercedes. I will drive around 7,500 to 10,000 miles per year. I currently drive a Toyota Corolla. As a student, I realize this is a very ambitious and a risky move but I want to know how much it costs per year to use? (other than gas, insurance, and monthly loan payments)

if you could list the amount of money you spent on your car and problems if you encountered any?

Thank you in advance.
Amarjiit

I just did all four brakes in my 40k mile 2013 CLS550 4matic. Bought all the parts online; rotors, pads, sensors, and the tools I didn't have (18mm 6-point socket, T45 socket, ceramic grease, and finally the anti-seize and Locktite) came to about $900. I bought all OEM Mercedes/Brembo parts as I learned from my Audi's never to buy aftermarket brake parts. Did the job in about 4 hours on a mid-rise lift (which has paid for itself 10X since I bought it!). Other than that I've had no REAL expenses - good luck & happy motoring.

I just had the complete B service done on my 2017 CLS550. It cost $530 total. Why they quoted you over double that amount I have no idea. I think you can buy a three year maintenance agreement for that price. I am located in Texas but I can't see Florida being that much more expensive.

I also live East of Dallas and will be looking for a service provider in the not too distant future. If you don't mind, could you share where you got your service done. I have taken my other MB's to Plano for service, but it you have a good place, I can check them out.

MB of Plano is where I buy my cars because of selection and price but I live only 35 miles from MB of Tyler, that is where I get my service done. Ask for Walter, a service rep, who will take care of you. Call in advance and he can set you up with a loaner vehicle.
