A209 Cabriolet top falling apart problems

I have a 2007 CLK350 Cabriolet, living in Michigan, garage kept hasn't seen snow and barely been in rain less than 70K. Starting a couple of years ago the "tape" at the "hinged" area of the top was letting go. Why, why oh why does Mercedes concede to using cheap tape on and a heavily used area instead of stitching? I know I have to get the top repaired. Can this top material used be sewn back together?

Is your canvas otherwise in good condition? If so, I'd re-glue the seam and stitch it, but this has to be done from the underside of the canvas. To do this you have to peel back the canvas far enough to access it. It's not as complicated as replacing the entire canvas, but it's not easy. This happened to mine, but since the canvas was worn, I decided to replace it. The new canvas I ordered, made by Robbins, was stitched and glued.

Rodney the top canvas is in great shape. I will look into getting it stitched. That is a good idea, I just don't want to spend a couple three thousand for a new top. Thanks for your help.
