Cruise control issue

I have some problems with my cruise control, I get cruise control on screen when I pull the lever down, but immediately when I release lever it disappears from screen and cruise control wont engage. If I pull lever top nothing happens, I've try spray some electric spray into the base of cruise control lever but with no difference.
Picture is when I hold the lever down, as mention before it does not engage cruise control. I have no warnings lights on, Ive checked fuses but everything seems to work, also my break lights is working, whats next thing to do?

It does seem like a bad lever. Do you get any different messages when you pull or push the lever?

There may be some differences in model years, but I think if the cruise control has not been set since the engine was started, and you pull the lever for resume, you should get a blinking "---mph" message. If not, then I'd guess it's the switch itself that is bad.

You do realize that the Cruise Control needs the wheels to be matched in diameter to compare the wheel speeds, so do check for equal tire wear and matching sizes. Of course the front and rear tire widths are different - but that does not affect the diameter. Also the RPM sensors could give trouble.

I am not sure if any of those issues will prevent you setting the CC active...

Yes I've read about that tire size can affect cruise control engage in some speed range, but in my case cruise control wont engage at all, and all my tires does have correct size. I have no warning lights on my dashboard I guess an faulty RPM sensor would throw one of those?

I haven't checked for the W209, but most cars with cruise control have a switch that's engaged by the brake pedal as soon as you touch it. If this switch has failed the cruise control will not engage. Contort yourself under the dash and check whether there's a switch visible.

There is no brake pedal switch on the W209. Also, if it were tire size related, you'd be getting ESP errors. Pulling the stalk toward you when cruise has not been set should result in a message on the MFD like "---mph". This is to let you know it has not been set to a speed, so it cannot resume. Since this does not happen, I suspect a bad stalk. The only caveat I'll offer to that theory is I am not sure if all model years (i.e. version of the instrument cluster) would display this message, and I am not sure if it is displayed in all countries.

I don't know if this applies to your car ,,,
Check whether cruise control is selected,,,The LIM indicator lamp in the lever should not be lit.
If the lamp is lit ,press the lever toward the column ..to select cruise control.

If the LIM lamp is lit , then the Variable Speedtronic is selected and cruise control will not work.
keyhole likes this.
