Painted the grill (from silver to matte black) and I'm super happy with how it turned out, saved me spending $300 on a replacement (can of plasti-dip was just $30)

I don't remember those plastic studs, but it's been a while since I've worked on the CLK grille. That does look nice!

Nice job.
Did you use masking tape on the chrome leading edge?

I did mask the chrome up with masking tape, i tried to pull the chrome peices off but only one strip came off easily, didn't want to risk damaging anything by prying the others off.

However, if i were to do it again i wouldn't mask it since the plasti-dip stuck to the tape and when i peeled the masking off a bit of plasti-dip ripped off with it. I had to paint on more on bare chrome and then peel it off to blend it all in properly.

Just paint the whole thing black and peel the chrome bits off, plastidip is very forgiving and the the lines inbetween the chrome and fins will tear it cleanly off.

Any reason why you used plasti-dip? Were you not sure you wanted to commit to the paint job? The reason I ask is because Plasti-dip will wear off with use. If you do decide to make it permanent, sand the surface with a find grit (320-400) paper and use a plastic prep before the color. Back when I had the W163 ML, everyone wanted silver grilles instead of the black. We learned to do it this way so the paint adhered and did not chip.
