Good to hear it. I've heard of other folks using the Mobil product w/o a problem.

Your assertion that Maxlife is made with conventional oil is wrong. Base oil does not mean that it is petroleum based.

So any updates from folks who used Valvoline MaxLife so far? That would be great to know.

Roger that, Shell works. The $26/Qt MB branded stuff is for the uninformed. Been using Maxlife w/o a prob since forever. I think it's about $3 at Walmart. Works like a charm.

so, how effective is flushing through the lines at clearing the old fluid from the torque converter?

Works very well for me. Flushed until it came out red. As I recall, took about 15 quarts (At $3/Qt. it's not a problem.). Check some of the postings, either here or MB-world. Several have posted info on it. I disconnected one of the cooler lines, and clamped a clear poly hose draining into a gallon jug marked a 1 Qt., and, with a friend at the wheel, and I under the car, pumped out a Qt. at a time, added a Qt. at a time, until it comes out red. That was about 50K+ miles ago. I bought my 430CLk Cabriolet new, and she still runs nicely and still looks classy. Now note, Maxlife is spec for the W208 trans (722623, 5 speed). I believe the W210 is different.

I came across this method by AxelAddict, a well known Toyota guru. Granted subject car was a camry (3k oil changes) but you can appreciate the concept and see where this is going eventually...tranny drain & fill with every oil change, if you want to skip flushing. Guy asking had bought a 99 Camry and didn't have maintenance records/history.

well, I have 2 to do, the c280 needs it the most it is a high miler and is most likely in need of fluids, If I bought the german stuff I would exceed the purchase price of the car in one change.
I see there is a different shifter in the clk to the c I need to figure out if they upgraded the trans for the V8, can you search it from the VIN?

98 c280 sport with V6
02 clk 430 w amg package (pretty sure this is just plastic and tires)
Mark.

Is the dex/mercon fluid the stuff? there are about 5 kinds of max life on the castrol site.

I've been doing this on all of my cars. Might be an overkill, fluid comes out looking clean and red every time. Filter gets changed every fourth time (40K miles).

I use my Harbor Freight oil extractor (6+ gallon capacity) so it's a clean and easy job.
