Looking for used convertible, any year to avoid?

Hi folks,

I'm thinking about replacing my W211 Sport for a newer E-Class convertible. I've looked through the forum for issues, but haven't really found any. However, based on my past two E classes, W210 and W211, I know there must be issues out there. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance!

Cheers,

pc

Since nobody was able to help you apparently and I know nothing about the convertible (just got an E-350 coupe a few months ago), you may or may not be aware of the jump in horsepower with the V6 to 302 in the 2012 model year. I'm not sure if you wanted the V6 or the E-550 with the V8. I did some research on the E-350 for 2012-2013 and did not find any significant issues.

I have a 2013 E350 Cab. Purchased it new. I only have approx 5000 miles on it. I have not experienced any problems. Love the car.

2011-12 was meaningful change

If you are looking at the 550, then I suggest looking at 2012 or later. THe jump in HP and torque when they moved to the twin turbo is significant. I searched for a 2012 and have been thrilled with the performance.

So...4 years later and I finally bought a convertible, a 2015 E-400. I had been on the fence for a long time, but I'm glad I waited. I was avoiding the V8's because I know it would be too tempting for me to be a lead-foot. But that's a moot point as the b-turbo V6 puts out 329 HP

The one thing I'm not excited about is the column mount shift, though it does have paddles and the extra space between the seats is kinda nice, but it makes changing vehicles a bit awkward.

Also, I do like the instrument panel and the Car-Play integration in the new A238s, but it just isn't worth taking the first buyer depreciation hit. However, I do prefer the analog clock in the A207 over the round one in the A238.

The weird thing is, I just haven't seen any significant issues in the 4 years I had been looking, though admittedly, I haven't looked that hard...

I've had my 2015 E400 for a few months now and I've added a wireless Carplay, so I really don't have anything else that I want. I narrowed my search down to MY 2014-2016, for two reasons mainly, interior - for some crazy reason, I really liked the analog clock - and the bi-turbo engine. I just couldn't stand the huge flatscreen of the 2017-2018, but the 2019 dash is really growing on me and I'm starting to dig the ambient lighting and the aroma, but I can fake the aroma with the Febreze car product.

However, 2019 dash still seems like too much flatscreen from a proportion perspective; I really like the layout of the 2014-2016 dash. I guess I'll just wait until MB gets it right again. I really hate the huge flatscreens Tesla uses. I like my dashboards to be curvy...
