R129 Audio Sound System Issues/Problems

Hey MBies,

I got the code from someone on here and the radio appears to be working it goes through the stations
and bands no sound comes out of the speakers.

I checked the rear Amplifier's 30 amp fuse on the sub and it was good. The car has two dash speakers,
four door speakers and two rear speakers and I don't get any sound from any of them.

Does anyone know of any other fuses that could have blown or effect the amp not not the radio?
And if the amp is bad, how do I know for sure without spending $100 on a used one.

Looking for helpppppppppppp.

Thanks in advance - Rob.

I would start at the radio and see if there is any output.

If you have a Becker 1492 or 1692 you've got a Bose system. If that's the case, the radio outputs are high level, that is, they are powerful enough to drive a speaker, albeit a small one.

With that in mind you could just take a pair of headphones or some small speakers and with some jumpers to check the output at the radio. If you have output at the radio you can pretty much figure it's the amplifier.

You could also give Eddie or Tom at Becker Autosound a call and see if they can provide some high level troubleshooting.

I would guess it's the amp based on the fact that you have no sound at all.

I sent both to a guy in Florida, Im sure a Googke searcher someone on here can direct you to who, he fixed the radio the amp was fine. Didnt charge for diagnosis
He also put a 3.5 mm Jack on it so I can hook my phone/mp3/iPod to it to call and/or play music through the speakers. I play Sirrius thru my phone. And as far as the antenna, its toast and needs replacing. Get an aftermarket one they'll last a few years.

Good Luck.

A little casual looking at the first forum page here reveals a "sticky" in the blue backgrounded area at the top of the page, dealing with component-level repair of mercedes electronics. Check it out.
