Does anyone know if mercedes is planning a true 4 passenger convertible that does not look like a chick car such as a CLK? Anything in the works?

I'll be in the market in 2010 and for my 45th birthday i want a convertible but if Mercedes doesnt stop producing soccer mom cabrios i may have to go to a used Bentley Azure or GTC because the BMW 6 series is butt ugly.

You say "chick car" like its a bad thing.

Buy a Pontiac G6 Convertible and get a membership at the YMCA with the money that's left over.

ewww the CLK cabrio is more gurly than the new BMW 3series cabrio. what we need is an E-class Cabrio.

And yeah, i agree with the jumping around in price, a bentley azure, 2nd hand is not cheap!!!

What's a convertible used for? In my opinion its just to have fun.
You want something nice to drive, not too obnoxious, and above all, should make you feel good.
For me thats a 1970s Triumph TR6

if you want to seat 4 people, then get an old beemer, an old beemer has respect.

But hey! if you got money to burn, baby there is only 1 way to go... Drophead Phantom

Find a W111 cabrio from the 60's and 70's. Classic and instant status. 220SE, 250SE, 280SE, 280SE 3.5 and 300SE.

Do they drive like crap when they are stock? I bought mine already modified (lowered and techart suspension upgrades) . Mine handles like its on rails. I love it. Great car for Florida. Bargain for the amount of fun they are. ALso - while mine only has about 23k now I have had absolutely no problems and have owned it since about 12k so its reliable as far as I know..

Yeah well thats tame compared to what they say about people who drive Mercedes 190's ;-)
You only buy one because you can't afford a Mercedes..
I don't follow, a 190E is a real Mercedes,
If we are going to get all George Orwell on each other, i'd say a 190E is more of a Mercedes, than a w220, w211, w210, w202, w203, w204 etc...

A car can say many things about a person if you wish to use it to justify criteria.

A Boxster has no argument for itself. It basically means you couldnt afford a 911.
A C-Class says that life really didnt turn out the way you wanted it to.
A w221 basically says you have money.
etc...
Now there is nothing wrong with driving a car that says you have money, or not. A car tends to do that, whether you want it to or not.

There are a lot of things money can buy, that includes 911s.

If you want to show you have money, buy a new S-Class Mercedes, don't tell people you tried your best and could only afford a C-Class or a Boxster.

There are a few things money cannot buy, such as respect or good taste.

Driving a w201, w123, w126, or even a w124, says you're a poor sucker, true. But it says something more than a Boxster, 911 or a W221 can ever say, it says you have class.

This is getting silly. A Boxster is for those who can't afford a 911. A 911 is for those who can't afford a Carrera GT. A 190E is for those who can't afford a new C-Class who can't afford an E who can't afford an S who can't afford a Maybach who can't afford an Enzo who can't afford a Bugatti.

Im not sure I got your point either.you insult boxster owners yet drive what is considered to be one of the poorest built benzes of all time.....

By the way, I can easily afford a 911 and chose a boxster instead.

What I would never drive , however, Is a tired ass 190e. Even if it was free....

not bad for a couple of 911 wannabees huh :)

Now if we could only find someone stupid enough to trade a rockin 190e for one of our cars we would really be cool. If only they were not so over engineered. In my dreams its a 4 cyl model rather than a diesel or a 6. Those other motors are so ....... classless... I find the deep low growl of the 16v music to my idiot ears :rolleyes:

Anyhow sorry to derail the thread .... Heres a nice convertible that seems suitable enough for a manly man. :)

Cornering in a mid engine car like a boxster (or 914 for that matter) has advantages to a rear engine car like a 911. For anyone of you who have 180'ed in a 911, you know what I mean.

As to w126 being an indicator of not being able to afford something else, consider that these cars cost well over $100,000 in todays money new. A lot of us on the w126 forum have had ours since new or when they were nearly new. When you spend that kind of money, you expect the car to last awhile.

.
PSM = fancy name for skid control/stability managment system is a must-have feature, especially on a rear engine car. I have it on my Boxster, it was optional in 2004, it's now standard.

I believe you need to define, afford and intelligence. I am sure many of us that drive a 126 do so because we genuinely like the car and it is extremely solid and better built than many of the new Mercedes. I have always paid cash for my cars. Many people simply lease their cars, with no tangible value an easy proposition but this does not show you have money it simply shows you make enough to cover your monthly payments.

My first wife was stock broker an oddly enough the people she mined with real money, million dollars of liquid assets lived in mobile homes drove pick-ups and saved all their lives. The doctors and lawyers that drove new BMW's and Mercedes and live in a huge house were living month to month and had no real money its all about the show.

High income versus asset-rich, different form of well-off for sure..

Some boxsters/caymans are bought because 911s cost more, but MANY are bought because they handle MUCH better.

Furthermore,
I have a W126 while i could afford much 'nicer' cars, but i like the w126 more. Even between my SLK 55 and my 560 SEC, i think the SEC has more style.

No one has the right to put down anyone else just because their car is cheaper, even a 190e. Class isn't defined by what car you drive. Money doesn't buy class, as evidenced by some posters in this thread. Conversely, it is also true being poor or cheap doesn't mean you have class or taste though....also evidenced by other posters in this thread...

I was gonna leave this alone but I cant resist. Is that comment directed at me implying I lack class because of my response to overdrives original moronic post about boxster owners? I did apoligize which is considerably more than he did... Regular poster that he is.... In addition the whole point of me shitting all over his 190e was to show him what a narrowminded ass he was being by one upping him. Obviously the point missed you as well...

Sorry for stirring the pot in this thread and just for the record - I made point that the cars he mentioned were vintage benzes and not in the same class as his and I stand by that statement. My father owned a 69 280SE and a 89 560SEL when I was growing up and my first Mercedes was a 1989 260E. The 190e couldnt hold a candle to those cars either. It was overbuilt for a economy mercedes.. Thats about it..

As far as handling on the boxsters versus the 911. I have driven both of course and while I didnt stretch the 911 I did get the tail out. I can take my boxster thru a 90 degree corner at 30-35 mph and stick to the road. The 911 I drove would have been in the median sideways..

The reason I bought this boxster was because it looked sick with all the body kit and enhancements and I have always thought the 911 back looked.... Ugly?

I have a w126 560sel and a w201 190E 2.3. I have no class, I am poor and I am not ashamed to own either one. When I was rich, I had a 911, a Testarossa and a 600SEl all at the same time but I still had no class. I can't win now can I? Actually I don't care and life isn't about what you drive specifically but it's about how you treat your ride ;) while starving your kids so you can buy an exhaust system or something, yep I still ain't got no class.
