Turn your Motorola V60 into a Mercedes V60 ...
Or at least make it display Mercedes-Benz
Published on Wednesday, October 15th, 2003 by paulhdick Discuss this topic !

Although it is not possible to make your non-Mercedes V60 work like the integrated Mercedes V60 phone, you can at least change the display screen to make it say “Mercedes-Benz” like this:

Performing this change requires putting your Motorola V60 phone into programming mode. If you are faint of heart you may not want to do this. If you try and change anything else besides what I list here you are on your own because you can make your phone unusable. I take no responsibility for the accuracy or feasibility of these instructions with your V60 phone. It works on my MB V60i and a few other non-Mercedes phones I tested it on. It should work on yours if it’s a TDMA or CDMA V60 (MB or not). I haven’t tired it on a GSM version of the V60. I suggest writing down the current “Tags”, or anything else you try to change before making the change so you can put your phone back to the same configuration as when you started in case you make a mistake or it doesn’t work. If at any point you think you may have done something wrong while in programming mode, pushing the “END” key will exit you out without making changes.

First, you will need to know your phone’s security code before you can make the change(s). This is not the same as your phone’s unlock code. For those of you with a real Mercedes-Benz V60 phone the default security code is “000000” (six zero’s) assuming no one has changed it. All factory shipped Motorola phones start with the “000000” security code but some service providers change it (like Sprint!!). If entering “zero’s” doesn’t work try using six one’s, or two’s, etc., or entering “123456”. If none of these work and you can’t get it from your cell phone service provider, you are out of luck.

Here’s how to make the change:

1) To enter programming mode start with the flip open and press the “MENU” key then enter “073887*”. You need to do this fairly quickly or it won’t work. If it doesn’t work the first time try it again. Make sure you start from the main screen by pressing the “END” key first. If it works you will see a screen that looks like this:

2) Enter Security Code: “000000” (or whatever your security code may be) then press “OK”. The screen will look like this:

3) Select: NAM Setup (scroll to NAM Setup then press the “Select” key). The screen will look like this:

4) Select: NAM1 (if NAM1 and NAM2 are on your phone or skip this step if not). The screen will look like this:

5) Select: Level 1 then use the scroll key to move down to “Home Tag”. The screen will look like this (although in this picture I am ready to select “Partner Tab”… sorry):

6) Change: Home Tag then enter “Mercedes-Benz” or whatever else you want to enter for the Home Tag. Use the up-down scroll key to change a highlighted letter from lowercase to uppercase or vice versa. The screen should look like this: Press “OK” when done.

7) Change: the Partner, Favored, and Neutral Tag the same way. If you do a lot of roaming and want the display to show that you may want to leave the Partner Tag and Neutral Tag as they are.

Note: Those of you with a shared plan or other service provider special program should also do the following so the new Alpha Tag is displayed all the time. If not just skip ahead to step 13.

8) Scroll down to “Level 3” and press select. The screen should look like this:

9) Select: PSID/RSIDs (if this is not on your phone skip ahead to step 13 ) The screen should look like this:

10) Select: PSID/RSID 1. The screen will look like this:

11) Scroll to Alpha Tag and press “Change” (if there is nothing entered here just press “OK” and skip to 13).

12) Enter “Mercedes-Benz” or whatever else you want to enter then press “OK”.

13) Keep pressing the “Done” key until your phone exits out of programming mode and resets itself. When the phone turns itself back on again you should see a screen that looks like this:

Congratulations: You now have a Mercedes-Benz V60 phone!!! Or at least one that says it on the inside!!

Note: Although I haven’t tried this on other model Motorola phones it may work on them as well.
