| GL550 Mileage
Hello! I have to say that I see people continually post about how awesome of MPG or L/100KM the Diesel engines achieve. I also have had every dealer tell me how great the torque is in the diesels and all, but I just don't like it. You put a diesel engine in an X5 or a GL body and then tell it to pass on the highway, and it doesn't cut the mustard in my opinion. Something about the Big V8's, turbo or not, that get me every time. But that is why they make different vehicles: different wants and needs.
Below, I have attached two pictures. The first is the MPG on a sales trip I had yesterday. I clicked through the various screens on the dash and saw that I was at about 20 MPG. I drove from NW Indiana to Indy and had some sales calls, and then back home. I got gas south of Indy then reset the data. So, I had some city driving and then some highway driving.
There is no good way to get Indy from where I live, so you are basically on a US highway with stoplights. It is a 60 MPH highway, and I am a traditional 10 MPH over driver, so 68-70 on this road is the norm for me. There is a stretch between Indy and Columbus, IN that is 70 MPH, which means 80 for me, and there is about 40 miles of this included.
So I see about 20 MPG and let the cruise go at 68 mph. It ticked up to 21.3 MPG.
It eventually topped out to 21.5 MPG, but I also wanted to see what my MPG was more at an average speed of the cruise control, and at 65 I was getting 24.2 mpg. flat highway with some slight hills. I was only occupant and very little wind, no other additional weight.
Also attached is a picture of the "FROM START" metrics page, and you can see that there is a larger distance to account for here as wel as a mid-50's average speed and still a great MPG. This includes all the start and stop and highway and city driving. I have to say "not bad."
I am seeing consistent city mileage around 16.5 or so and about 19+ on mixed highway /city driving. On a road trip with more consistent velocities, I am sure that 21+mpg Is achievable without being boring. Overall, I am impressed with the mileage, even though that was really not a consideration in buying this vehicle. I like it a lot, although I can make the traction control do an "Oh Sh!t" pretty easily.
Looking forward to the feedback.
Also, getting the Escort 9500CI directly integrated into dash next week as well as Blinder laser jammers as well. I will let you know and post some pics as well. The read out from the 9500 will display in the center dash under the "AUDIO" section of the menu. How cool.
