re-posting question: Monoblock vs stock BBS AMG wheels

Posted this question in the W220 forum. What would be better choice? Existing OEM AMG wheels need to be changed. After searching I narrowed down to monoblock custom wheels offered by signaturewheel.com and buying almost new BBS made factory OEM AMG 2-piece forged wheels. Monoblocks are costing about 1000 bucks more.

Which would be a better buy for W220 AMG. The car originally came with 19 inch staggered factory AMG wheels. Bought the car used. In the past year of driving the wheels developed cracks on the inside edge. I drive the car a lot and am looking for something that would be structurally reliable for daily driver. The wheel repair guy tells me that he gets a lot of AMG cars with cracks in their wheels for repairs.

If you have those hideous 5 split spoke AMG wheels, I'd go the monoblock route even though it sets you back. I roll on 25 year old AMG Aero 1's monoblocks and amazed at how tough they are and still balance with minimal weights. Accidentally hit a few nasty potholes with rubber band tires in th past and still straight.

Because of cost and warranty reason I am leaning towards BBS performance line (low pressure cast flow form). The wheels are lighter. Not cheaper by that much compared to deal I am getting on monoblocks. But at least BBS is a known name and they said if I were to damage my wheels, they would offer a new one at 40% price (their way of ensuring bad wheels don't end up on the ebay or getting repaired). The BBS guy was very helpful. The monoblock manufacturer is new kid on the block and started the business 8 months back. The reviews are very good and they offer a three year structural warranty. But the thought that if wheel hits pothole and I have to get a new one dreads me. At least with BBS I am covered somewhat in addition to their reputation as a manufacturer.
