Hello

I have just bought an ex-ambulance which is a VW LT46. 2000 X reg It was a chassis cab out of the factory.

Apart from the external appearance, and the engine is there any other differences, particularly in the cab.

As it was an ambulance there are numerous holes in the dash from additional equipment that was installed. I would like to replace this if I can with used Sprinter interior as the Sprinter is bay far more abundant at the breakers yard than the LT46 is.

Having owned in excess of 50 sprinters and a few LT35 & 46 Models,
I can say the sprinter is better, The Trim from the 96-2000 model will fit the Lt46 but the color is sligthly different, the LT is basicly the same as the Sprinter except the front end and engine,, (tip for Sprinter owners) buy sensors from Vw as they are cheap than merc part but are the same

So would a 2.9 sprinter engine go in if the worst should happen? Again there seems to be on the breaker market.

unfortunaly not , unless you you have a whole donor vehicle

Thanks. Lets hope the worst dosen't happen. I am told the 2.8 tdi is pretty robust.

They are ok, they do suffer from oil leaks and cam belts that snap, so get the belt changed for sure

I'l like to see a cam belt snap. They are gear driven so I am told in the 2.8

However I would like clarification if possible please.

I merely stated that this is a problem in the LT, They Do Have cam Belts, Your model does not, However you never stated your engine sizeuntil now.
