Hi guys, I've been running this Sprinter for 18 months without any major problem, until yesterday. It seems that I am not getting fuel up from the tank, I was told by a mechanic that it was the pump in the fuel tank, but I do not think this is the case. Before I go and purchase the main pump on the front of the engine, any suggestions as to what it could possibly be other than the pump? Or is there a test that I could do to clarify that the pump is the cause of the problem.
Thanks,
Kevin
as far as I am aware there is not pump in the tank, the primer pump is at the top right front of the engine. thie feeds the high pressure pump. What symtoms have you got to make you think there is no fuel?
I was told there was no fuel flow by the mechanic. I by-passed the fuel filter using a bottle full of diesel and it started fine, the pump was sucking it out from the bottle. So I went and got a new filter, started and got warm fine, just took it for a test run now and the same thing is happening. It stalls, EDC light comes on then it struggles to start, then the process repeats.
stabbing in the dark here, any chance of some foreign oblect in the tank blocking the feed pipe, or the tank vent being blocked and vacuuming? try blowing down the feed pipe to the filter
