311cdi overheating?

Hi,
I have a 311 cdi 2000 model. Recently i had a problem where the temp gauge went up to just over 90 on the gauge. I checked the radiator and found it to be leaking. So i replaced the radiator ,checked the thermostat found it to be stuck ,so i replaced that aswell. Now the van runs just over 80 on the gauge, but on checking the radiator i found that the top hose is very hot and the bottom one is cold also the radiator is hot just at the top and rest of it is cold. Could this be a water pump? The other thing is it sometimes puts a bit of coolant out of the overflow but i'm putting that down to the pressure in the top hose and possible the water pump again. Any ideas?
Thanks John.

Have replaced the water pump, the problem is just the same. Now thinking the radiator is faulty. The top hose is hot and under pressure, but the radiator is cold, the build up of pressure has to go somewhere so that must be why its coming out of the expansion tank. Just had a new core fitted to the radiator but i have been told that this doesn't always work. So will try a new radiator.

Update on the ongoing saga!!!!!
Well so far the radiator ,water pump, thermostat have all been replaced. Took it to a local garage and they said it was the head gasket. So they pressure tested the head and had it skimmed, replaced the head gasket, new head bolts and rebilt it. I then drive it for 200 miles to find out its still the same!!!!!
Any ideas ??????

£1800 later still no further forward.
Will defenetly be the last Merc i buy , their overpriced junk!!!!!!!
And the Main dealer is a clown!!!
