2004 sprinter jumps out of gear

Hi
Just bought a 2004 313, hit slow moving traffic and it started jumping out of first gear. Got so bad I ended up having trouble pulling away on a hill.
Any ideas anyone

its quite common on these esp at higher milage, , check to see if the selector is worn and cables are ajusted correctly, if they are are the problem is in the box.

Thanks Star Automotive. Kind of you to reply.
After having a look and a fiddle, I cannot see any way of adjusting the cables. Could you tell me what to look for? Although I'm pretty handy mechanically,this is my first encounter with a sprinter so please excuse me if this is a stupid question.
On the mileage front, it has only done just over 100k miles so not really high
