Steering???

Hi all, new here. I got an 04 311 LWB and the steering has just gone heavy when idling. topped up power steering fluid, but still seems to be happening. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

i will try to help but it seems from joining the forum no one offers up help so far??

thanks, it doesn't appear to be leaking. It still works normally when driving along, just when i'm not moving it goes heavy - sometimes its like the engine aint running

It sounds like the pump is finished.

I find the same thing not that much help around!!

I would agree it sounds like the pump is on its way out, does the steering get lighter with a few revs on at standstill?

When I first start the steering is fine, then after a while the steering is like the engine aint running at standstill but ok when i'm driving along. It is lighter when i give it a few revs at standstill tho, would it still be the pump? Thanks

yes it sounds like it is the pump! you could try changing the oil but I think it needs a new pump.

Does the pump have a filter? On the cars, there is a filter down in the resevoir. I replaced one on a used benz I picked up trying to solve a similar problem. The filter was clogged, and the addition of the new filter made the world of difference. It was amazing!
