How to work out your legel payload:
1. Fill your car with fuel and screenwash, then drive it to a public weighbridge.
2. Weigh your van.
3. Add on your weight and any passengers.
4. Take that away from 3500kg, assuming that's the MGW of your van.
The Vehicle Insepctorate allow you to be 5% over to take into account the varying mass of some types of load, so you a#can expect enforcement, prosecution or a prohibition notice at anything over 3675kgs.
any one know if you get a fine after being pulled for being 388kgs over weight. I got a proibition notice and had to unload some items before being aloud on my way? There was no mention of any fine on the day and the paperwork that was sent to the office says nothing about any fine, just that the proibition notice will be held on fill at the vosa offices.
I do not know about the fine thingy......how did they establish you were overweight??..were you taken to the weighbridge???...if so..what was the legal weight........it all seems to be a mystery to the actual legal payload allowed........
I understand that the payload is the difference between the GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) and the Tare Weight. Both these weight should be on the compliance plate put on the vehicle by MB for OZ vehicles anyway. From memory my 313 LWB has a GVM of 3550 and a Tare of 1990 so my understanding that the load can be 1560Kg. This include people Fuel etc.
If the vehicle has been converted to a mobile home the Tare weight could/will be different.
I will check that out on the vehicle...mine is a MWB and I understood the payload to be worked out in the same way......but some people have told me otherwise????????
