Hi, I have a 2001 Mercedes deisel Sprinter and have spent about $1200 on a fault with the bturbo to no avail. the turbo cuts out at random-switching the ingition off and on rectifies the problem for awhile. The agent has replaced the turbo pressure switch, rewired the turbo and it is still happening. No light appears on the dash, but the fault is logged by the 'on board computer' as an error. If some one could shed some light on this I would be very grateful as I no longer have any faith in the agents abilities. Cheers
Check the exhaust manifold at the head end for possible leaks, particularly around the No1 cylinder port. Check the bolts on the manifold for tightness. I have had to replace the manifold gasket and have the manifold face planed when I found a stud broken at No1 cylinder port. Sometimes you may be able to see a build up of black carbon around the leaking port. This problem also resulted in carbon breaking off and scoring the insides of the turbo. The turbo has been replaced and the limp home problem disappeared.
