filled up with petrol today by mistake !

Hi folks, number one muppet here.....

Filled up with fuel on the way home today, got about half a mile and cut out, thought the worst and it was. i had put about 50 litres of petrol in my tank by mistake. fortunately i had broken down near a garage and they drained the tank for me, then i put a full tank of diesel in and drained the fuel filter of petrol and refilled it with diesel. after much cranking the engine fired and ran ok on the way home.
does anyone know if this will cause any damage ?
My engine is a recon with 5000 miles on it, its only a 308d so no turbo, high pressure pump or ECU. The mileage on the van is 415k.
Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated.....

OOHHH bad luck, since you were so close to a garage and changed the filter right away i dont imagine you will have a problem. Keep an eye out for that nasty check engine light though.

petrol in by mistake as well

Hello we have the same problem we have a Merc Vito van. Just filled up with petrol (was filling a petrol b4 - doh!) and drove 1 mile home. Hasnt cut out and sounds the same but want to drain the engine now. We dont have a manual. Can anyone advise how to drain the fuel and the fuel filter?
