I have a 1998 M/B Sprinter which I maintain myself. Today I was checking the gear box ID plate to ensure that I was purchasing the correct oil. I use a Peter Russek Pocket Mechanic Vehicle Manual, my motor is a 602 - 5 cylinder diesel with a 5 speed gear box, this should be a 711.113(G1/18-5/4.7) according to the manual. The plate marking is 711.(6 or 1)12 followed by 374950. The 6 is stamped over the 1 or vice versa, this in itself is no help, the 612 or 112 gear box are not covered in the manual. My vehicle ID is WDB9034632P8901363. Which gear box should I have and what oil should I use in it? Can anyone decipher the numbers for me, I am a newbie to the M/B world.
