We have a 310d 5 cylinder sprinter, around a 1998 model.
We were driving back the other night when it developed a slight misfire when driving, it still idles lovely. The revs also appear to be limited by the misfire as we cant rev very high in gear.
In the light we noticed it throwing out lots of blue/white smoke smelling of diesel, oil and water levels appear fine. We dont really know where to look now, we bled the fuel system just incase the slight misfire was something to do with air.
Sounds like the advance in the fuel pump has stuck.
If you remove the oil filler cap and run the engine be ready to catch the oil as it chucks it out fairly quick and a lot of pressure is there (just hold your hand over the oil filler hole it usually shows a blown h/gasket as they normally blow across the front between number 1 and the timing case.
