Increase in Revs before power delivered to wheels

Hi there,

I'm new here and this is also my first post. I hear these places are full of people with massive amounts of good information.

I've a 2003 Sprinter 311CDi MWB which has recently developed a problem.

When the revs are around 2k (but anywhere between 2k and 3k ish) and attempting to accelerate, the van's wheels don't receive the power straight away.
Instead, the revs increase by 500 - 750 before something bites and the wheels finally get the drive. (Causing the revs to go back down to their normal level).

It's as though there's something slipping, like the diff, or a belt, or the clutch isn't properly dis-engaging or something like that.

I was wondering if anyone on here had a similar or exactly the same problem with their sprinter and could enlighten me on what it might be?
Not being the most mechanically aware of how a vehicle works, I'd rather not go to a garage and have a wild goose chase of trying to find out what this might be and financially suffering as a result.

Many thanks,

Simon.
P.S. happy to be joining this forum.

P.P.S. I've posted this question on the Merc Benz Owners' forum also

Sounds like the clutch is slipping. Either the clutch plate could be worn out, or oil has leaked onto it.

Unhappy

That surely sounds like the clutch is slipping due to wear. Never happened to me but my girlfriends fiesta had exactly the same problem, was the master cylinder then the clutch, feels like your driving a bad automatic.
