Hi,
I own a immaculate 1995 Sprinter 208 with 100k on the clock with FMBSH that has been on a local bakery run. I'm using it to transport my son's go-kart (so not o lot of weight carried). Now, I know the 80hp unit isn't a rocket but mine is painfully slow. I literally have to stand on the throttle and slip the clutch to pull away, when it SEE'S a hill it dies, a fifth gear may as well be an overdrive because if you put it in top at 70mph on the flat the speed drops. Surely this isn't right? After all, they put the same unit in the 3500kgs XLWB version! The head is fine so things point to the pump or pump timing? Does anyone have experience with these older 208/308's that can shed some light or maybe know how to tweek the pump??
Please help! The van's fantastic in all other ways with handling and bodywork and I'm loaved to get rid.
Thanks
Rob.
Rob, I'd go for a good tune-up. I used to drive 208's (Sprinters and the older vans) back in the nineties, indeed no rockets (luckily you find no hills in the Netherlands) but it moves along pretty well. Sounds like there is a crud build up somewhere....when did it start behaving like that?
