Second Generation Sprinters

They'll be out later this year. They have to do some retooling to the South Carolina plant first before we see them on the roads in the US. These new Sprinters will be offered with both gas and diesel engines. Though in Europe, nearly 100% of buyers opt for the diesel version.

Above info found here: Wolfgang's ML Page: Mercedes, Freightliner, Dodge Sprinter

Here's a video documenting the design of the new Sprinter.

I wonder which gas engines. By that matter, is there going to be more than one diesel for the US market?

The gas is a 3-somthing liter V-6, and the only diesel is also a V-6, I'm pretty sure it's the most powerful diesel from the Euro lineup.
I think it would be cool to see a 4-cyl. in the smaller vans but it'll never happen. Glad to see the petrol version here, wouldn't be my first choice but should help sell a few vehicles, esp. considering current diesel prices and lingering distrust among consumers of diesels.

The 'gas' or as we over the pond like to call it petrol engines are 3.5ltr.
Had a test drive today in the 315cdi (diesel) and very impressed much improved on the previous chassis, dash arrangment good as is the driving position but with all the extra toys I want its £27500 plus VAT (17.5%) ouch!! (Still might get one though)

Just an update, the info on the new Sprinter is now on the Dodge website (though without pricing). It looks like the motors will be 3.0CRD and 3.5 gas.

I can't wait till the new Sprinter RVs come out! My last one was a 2006 Pleasure-Way Plateau 25th Anniversary that easily towed my 911 to the track. While just driving around I got 25.6 mpg in the Sprinter. When towing the 911 on an open car hauler I got 18 mpg. Incredible! Mercedes knows how to build damn good diesel engines. If anyone is wondering this is taken at Sebring near the false grid.

I know the V6 diesel is probably going to be smoother than the inline-5 from the first gen. The first gen Sprinter has found so many uses in North America in a short time. I think the second gen Sprinter will find equally numerous applications.

diesel engines are smoothest when they have odd numbers of cylinders for some reason !! dont know why but it was some thing a design engineer told me when i worked at a coal mine years back

I have already placed an order for two Sprinters. They are in production. Yes, they are using the 3.0L Diesel engine and the 3.5L gas. I ordered the diesel. (Already have a fleet of Sprinters.) The one new thing that will be available on one chassis length is an even higher roof. So now there is the standard roof, high roof, and extra high roof. They are running about $1200 U.S. more than the previous model.

I was browsing the UK site and I noticed that the Euro-spec Sprinters can be outfitted with the COMAND system. I didn't find it listed as an option on either the dodge or freightliner sites. Will there be any way to install it onto the US versions?
