Hi all you happy helpers,
I want to fit a reversing camera system to my 2004 sprinter 316 with sprintshift.
Any thoughts about where to pick a wire from the reverse light circuit to activate camera when reverse is engaged, and also a live feed.
Dunno about the sprinter but I just spliced a line in to the reverse light supply for my rear parking sensors right near the light cluster itself. All the electrics in the van are routed in the space between the outer skin of the van and the internal panelling at the junction between the roof and the walls of the van. You can route the live feed anywhere.
Best and perfect reversing system; tried & tested over many years; some shortfalls at times owing to attitude and sheer ignorance - human head, ears and eyes! (ofcourse, success subject to use of BRAIN).......heh, heh....sometimes missing from the equation!

Hi Campo, I installed a colour reversing camera in my new 315. I had the option of connecting it to the reverse circuit but I decided to have a permanent connection. I find it much safer to have the option of always having it on rather than just when reverse is selected......plus it's a lot easier. If I want to turn it off, I just have to turn the switch off on the LCD. Best thing I ever bought.
Interesting subject this, can you give us a bit of a review with some specs of what kind of system u have
I looked into this but my feelingwas the local market here was not that clued up.
What angle camera did u use and how much "fish eye" effect do u get"
What type of camera did u use, cmos or ccd
is your camera a bullet hole type or other?

Hi Rufus,
I'll get some pics of the van tomorrow, including the camera and the LCD. The added benefit is that it has a very good night-vision capability. We have it angled so that we can see the rear-step (for parking very close to walls, etc) but I've had it angled to view much more.
I got mine from Backup Camera Systems, Cameras, Monitors, Sony, Voyager, Obserview, RV Cams - cost about $350 - there was nothing else in UK/Europe that was as good - and as cheap. It has a 5.6" LCD in the cab, which comes with a cigarette lighter charger kit, but we wired it into the cabin lights, so no loose cable to worry about. Possibly not the prettiest LCD around but good for the price.
I'll get some photos in daylight and post tomorrow.
