I have reposted in this forum as advised by AdamUK as I didnt know there was a Vito/sprinter section:
I have just taken delivery of a New shape mercedes Sprinter (year 2007) The speedo and odometer are both in KM's.
I have looked at a UK sprinter and the speedo dial looks to be just a straight swap (its seperate modules now, not one complete one like the older model)but can any one help me find the part number? or tell me if I can just buy the section that I need?
Does anyone have access to the digital workshop manual?
Also the odometer in KM's can this be switched over to miles?
The workshop information manual is hovering around ebay at the mo but it's a bit out of date so the chances are that it wouldn't include your model. Just in case you were thinkning of getting hold of a copy.
Have you had any luck with this yet? If not, let me know, I might have found someone who can help you.
No not found anything yet?
Do you have any info?
Any help much appreciated, the workshop manuals on ebay are not yet available for this model. Just in case any one wants to know the instrument cluster is very easy to take out, just put your finger nail in the top push up and forward and the whole thing pops out! No fixings what so ever!
Sadly it is one complete unit I was hoping to find a written off sprinter to swap the dials from...
It is not possible to change a IC from KMs to Miles on a NCV3 Sprinter. Its not just a matter of swapping the IC over. There is coding that needs to take place that even the dealer cannot do.
When I took the cluster out and hold it under the light I can see the "miles" electronic word so I presume its the same cluster for all vans? I know peple have had it switched over on there mercedes cars I didnt think it would be any different for vans?
I cant really understand why they would make it so difficult? I have been told that most dealers can switch it over but my local one is not very helpful as they have very little knowledge on unusual programming
The gurus is very clued up dude but he is scarcer than rocking horse sh!t.
What you must understand is that modern vehicles (well nice ones like the MB) operate on networks that have many complicated communication actions in teh background. One of these items is often a kind of handshake where the main ECU recognizes the various other modules by way of some code, when u try and replace it, it no longer recognizes it. This is also built in to protect you from unscrupulous folk who may take a high mileage vehicle and fit it out with a low mileage cluster from say a written off vehicle. Similar things happen with the ignition module, you dont want some guy who has an ignition module and key simply plugging it in to your van and driving off with it.....so you are going to struggle but its not impossible.

Sorry 315, been off the air for a few days. I'm taking my SL to my indy mechanic tomorrow, he used to be a sprinter guru so i'll have a chat with him and let you know.
Otherwise, you could probably build a nice abacus on your dashboard and do the calculations on the move! Alternatively, petition your government to convert......like the rest of Europe!!
