This has probably been posted already...
( please ignore if this is so..I am new)
I am very pleased with my 2003 sprinter
the first new van I have ever owned....
BUT last january '06we were going from
London heathrow to Glasgow 2pm on the
M6 in Cumbria just gone to -1*c and the
engine cut out completetly in the fast
lane....criused over to the hard shoulder
avoiding a coach and landrover.
An hour and a bit later the person who
normally does the valleting arrived pretending
to be a mechanic in the service van.... BUT
when he plugged in his "Star Diagostic "
computer it didn't work
The poor 16 year old was entirely, totally
and utterly lost... we watched from the cab
under the bonnet as he vainly proded and
pulled things and kept making mobile phone
calls to Preston for advice.
The lad then diagnosed "high preasure pump
failure " out of no where "very common" he said
sagely " and so we always have the parts for
this in stock "
He left another hour and a half a recovery truck
arrived and loaded us on we told him the lads
diagnosis " AH " he said " Very common second
one in two days on Sprinters he had recovered".
The mood was not good, but instead of taking us
northward we went back to Preston
Big garage with a proper time served older chap
" In for pump failure ? ... very common ...about four
hours go to the sh*t hole of a cafe service area
opposite " now it was well after 6pm after an hour
and a half again we got fed up and wandered back.
" I mended that one very quick" he said " Its
a known fault that a passanger stretching his
legs in the footwell can disconnect the van contol
box bring your Sprinter engine to a stop ".
He showed us his technical repair LOTS of gaffer
tape ALL over the box and connecting plug
Passed the point where we broke down seven
hours before at after 10pm.
The moral is tommorrow go out and gaffer up
the passanger foot well box , or risk wasting a
lot of time fuel and money.
I note this stupid fault has been corrected on
Mark 3 Sprinters.........
