You all seem to be doing very well on tyres, ive always used mitchelins cos they were the one's the van came with (316cdi on alloys) and get about 20-25000 from a front set and about 15000 from the rears. I did try a set of hancooks (budget) on the rear last change in november and have done 5000 miles since and there half worn allready!!
Should probably say my van is fully loaded (and some) all the time and does go of road into landfill and quarrys once or twice a week, the rest of the time its on tarmac and into building sites.
pre 2003 sprinter injectors shouldnt need recoding.I recently changed a 611.981 engine with different injector numbers and they didnt need a recode.
Its a good idea to buy a injector pipe and blank off one end (make sure its pressure tight) ie braze it.
If you get any suspect injectors you can blank them off the rail one at at time.
also make your self some spill off pipes to measure injector spill off as this can sometimes point to a faulty injector.
I've just swapped the engine in my 312D as the head has a fault in it, and I picked up a donor vehicle which had done fewer miles (from the same previous owner).
I had to swap the injector pump from one to the other, as the donor was accident damaged, and the ECU cable to the pump was damaged/severed.
The engine was timed up using standard marks, and the pump set for it just coming on to No.1, and fitted with the engine at TDC. I assume the knotch in the drive gear is associated with the position of the pump?
I have bled the injector lines, and wound it over. It doesn't fire.
I know nothing about these engines, other than they are "just another diesel", are there any tips and tricks, or something I'm completely missing.
I don't have access to a "Star" confuser myself, but if I can get it to run, I can get it to someone who does.
by the way my bridgestone tyres are over 270000 miles now and still looking rather good. i think they show more signs of perishing than wearing out. i was annoyed last month when i got a screw in one and had to have it fixed. the rears are wearing really well too considering 700kg plus load virtually always onboard too.
700kgs thats feathers, I run atleast 1500kgs load sometimes more. Total gross weight 3.85tons all the time, have had it on the weigh bridge at 4.9tons, bit over weight that day, did break a rear spring though carn't think why??
you wouldnt carry loads like that if you drove up the m6 regularly. the guys who drive volvos and still have moustaches dont like overweight sprinters. as we found out at great cost and lots of inconvenience. 600kg over. huge fine!!!!!!!!!!!
a sprinter lwb with fuel and driver wont carry more than 1050kg legally, be warned.
gone are the days where i would stop loading when the wheels rubbed, but i would still drive liverpool to cardiff every week just hoping the checkpoints were closed.
