my work place owns a 2005 mercedes 316 cdi van, it has this problem with starting sometimes when cold. when the key is turned to start poisson all the dummy lights come on like they should but the a/c fan turns on. and if the fan turns on the van will not start. If the fan comes on, the glow plug light remains on. If I put an electric heater in the cab for some time (depending on ambient temperature) I will turn the key on, after a few seconds the glow plug light goes out and the sprinter starts normally; but after the van sits after a night it will do the same thing. does this make sense to any one. is there some type of sensor for the glow plugs or a/c fan sending the wrong temp to the glow or a/c to cool or ???? When it acts up, I get a P1482, P1610 and P2134 codes.(2 glow plug, 1 engine control relay) I put in a known good engine control relay with no change. any ideas
312 cdi top end rattle, have inspected folloewers and chain assy, also had elec injectors tested for leak etc,????? 190,000 miles and been overheated once upon a time!!!
My 2001 Merc Sprinter 313CDi is losing Revs whilst accelerating through 3rd to 5th gears - before its service it would cut out on the motorway whilst at high speed. AA suggested a fuel filter change. Mileage is 103000.
I have just had the van put in for a service and had a faulty Injector replaced, as well as all the glow plugs and fuel filter.
Now when I am in 3rd to 5th gears whilst accelerating, the revs will drop to about 2000rpm and then slowly go back up to around 3000.
I got home and reversed onto my drive and the van stalled and the EDC light came on and the engine will turn over but not fire???
It was serviced at an MB garage (something I am beginning to regret now).

(Code reader recognises it as a Vito 639)
Codes are P1188 / P1470 / P1481
Van is in permanent limp. I'm reading From the ECU plug....
14 ohm towards the (new) boost sensor
26.2 ohm towards the 3rd piston cut off solonoid
Not checked glow plugs as surley this wouldn't cause limp would it?
Hi everyone from a delightful part of the world - Tasmania, Australia. I am a 70 year old retired film and video editor and new to this forum. I have bought an ex ambulance 2001 316 cdi Sprinter which jumps out of first gear intermittently but almost always after reversing. Otherwise it is a very good vehicle. It has travelled 210,000 Ks and I intend to use it as a camper van.
I am mechanically and electrically minded and suspect a faulty relay or
a worn selector dog or such part in the gearbox. I have read some horror posts but would really appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge or experience of this fault.
Local MB dealer suggests a new pump unit at around $4000 but as all the other gears perform perfectly I doubt their diagnosis. Another MB dealer
suggested replacing the entire clutch system at similar cost is the answer
but as all other gears are fine and on tour performance is faultless I doubt that as well.
I understand U.K. owners have purchased an exchange gearbox. Is anyone aware of same in Australia?
Thanks in anticipation,
Ross
The ssg relay is clicking in a similar manner as a turn indicator and constantly.Any ideas on what is happening?. I have a 2000 313 CDI.
Well after 39 hours research, the local MB technicians discovered unstable hydraulic pressure in the transmission system due to internal leak in the pressure accumulator. Was removed and replaced.Very fair cost of 9.10 hours labour plus parts, all up $nz 2000. Thanks for your interest and hope the above may give someone a clue should they have a similar experience.
hello all, i have a sprinter 311cdi, which has developed a metalic clicking noise, had the injectors replaced 2 years ago as they were over fueling meaning it would not start,
took it to the garage today and they say it could abe a small end bearing, possibly caused by the overfueling of one of the cylinders when the injectors needed replacing i am thinking this is the case as one of the injectors was hard to remove and had severe carbon build up, was wondering if anyone has a rough idea of how much this would cost, and if anyone else has had the same problem, thanks in advance
John,
In my 2003 313CDI Manual 5 gear Sprinter, the vehicle was jumping out of first and the Adelaide MB Dealer just reworked the linkages an all is now OK. Could it just be a linkage adjustment.
