Engine/tranny options

Did some of the Sprinters come with the 290 turbo diesel engine? If so, was it basically mechanical or did it have electronic engine management? Also, did they come with a manual 5-speed tranny bolted up? I am thinking of a possible engine/tranny swap.

the sprinter came with diesel turbo engines fitted to the 602, 611,612,646,647 all are electronically control with either CDI or EDC
