R500 Air suspension

We have a 2006 R500 with the air suspension with about 70k miles. A few days ago I was told the car was making a sound, but I wasn't there to hear it. I assumed it was the compressor as I heard that once before. Well I get back home from across the country and see the front end of the car is low.

I don't think this is a strut issue, as both sides are low. The rear of the car is still at normal height, so that rules out the compressor. Pushing the button to raise ride height has no effect on the front of the car, though it does lift the rear of the car, furthermore ruling out the compressor.

The car sometimes says "visit workshop" with the outline of the car with an arrow pointed up inside of it, which I assume means an air suspension issue. There are no other notices though, which I find strange. I'm hoping this is just a fuse or air line issue, though knowing Mercedes repairs, it wont be

Thanks for the help in advance

I don't know about your problem since I don't have airmatic on my 06 R500. I did however have a problem with the same message as you (white message saying "Visit workshop" with a diagram of the vehicle with an arrow pointing up). I just got my car back from the dealership today. The problem was that both rear level sensor arms (arms not the sensors themselves) were rusted and seized. Even though I don't have full airmatic, I do have self leveling air suspension in the back. They replaced both and wanted to charge me $350 plus tax parts and labor because it was not covered under my Mercedes extended warranty as MB considers it a wear item. After I politely complained and questioned this practice they told me they would look into it some more. They called me back a couple hours later and they said they would apply their goodwill gesture with 100% parts and labor. The SA told me that actually MB will pick up the charge for the parts and the dealership will pick up the labor charge.

Glad to hear that you got it free of charge.
Which MB dealer was it? I go to KEENAN MB dealer in Bucks County, PA for service, oil change and State Inspection. (SA is the father of my son's friend).
Note: had not have any repair so far, just service routine.

Oh I would be happy if our bill came to only 350. I just hope it stays in 3 digit territory

Called a dealer and they are charging 115 just to look at it, a negative to living in an area without many MB's

I live in Pittsburgh (other side of PA), and my dealer is Bobby Rahal Mercedes. I have been very happy with them since my first MB 15 years ago. I currently have two (R500 and ML350) and their service has been impeccable.

With regards to the repair, I also thought that $350 plus tax was not too bad given that the labor they charge is also $110 per hour. This was my first "real" repair item since I bought the vehicle CPO-ed on 01/09 with 26K miles. I know have 48K miles. There were two other minor fixes (ashtray mechanism broke and the glass panel next to the sunroof got a little loose in the corner) but they fixed as part of the original warranty before it expired. All other services were wear and tear items (brakes, tires etc) Superb vehicle so far!
I am obviously very happy with the outcome, thanks and I hope the OPs situation gets resolved soon as painless as possible!
