I don't know about your problem since I don't have airmatic on my 06 R500. I did however have a problem with the same message as you (white message saying "Visit workshop" with a diagram of the vehicle with an arrow pointing up). I just got my car back from the dealership today. The problem was that both rear level sensor arms (arms not the sensors themselves) were rusted and seized. Even though I don't have full airmatic, I do have self leveling air suspension in the back. They replaced both and wanted to charge me $350 plus tax parts and labor because it was not covered under my Mercedes extended warranty as MB considers it a wear item. After I politely complained and questioned this practice they told me they would look into it some more. They called me back a couple hours later and they said they would apply their goodwill gesture with 100% parts and labor. The SA told me that actually MB will pick up the charge for the parts and the dealership will pick up the labor charge.

Which MB dealer was it? I go to KEENAN MB dealer in Bucks County, PA for service, oil change and State Inspection. (SA is the father of my son's friend).
Note: had not have any repair so far, just service routine.
