R350 battery replacement

My wife's R350 showed a battery icon and "visit workshop" message when she started it today. I'm assuming it's the battery under the passenger seat, but I've found on this forum that there is also an auxiliary battery under the passenger floor. From what I've read, the aux. battery is just there to take over when the main battery gets weak or dies. Am I right?

I'm having a hard time finding a replacement battery (auto parts stores, Sears, even German-focused auto parts houses don't seem to list a replacement). Please tell me I don't have to go to the dealer. Anybody have to replace theirs yet?

Car is still under warranty. While main batteries are never included, is the auxiliary battery a warranty item?

Thanks,
Mike

Main battery is covered under base warranty.

My 2006 R500 battery died on one fine day and dealer replaced with a new one free under warranty.

And, you don't have to go to dealer.

This is a normal "roadside assistance" thing, and they'll come install one you buy from them for only the cost of the battery.

It was the auxiliary battery and it was replaced under warranty. We got an appointment the next day and were out within a couple of hours, including the complementary car wash.

This is a very good factory warranty. Aside from BMW warranties, most "wear" items like batteries aren't covered. Very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks for your help,
Mike
