Check Engine LIght on 2006 R350

My check engine light recently went on but there was no apparent issue with the vehicle.

I called the dealer and was told that it goes on sometimes if the gas cap is not sealed correctly and will correct itself once thats done.

So i double checked the gas cap, tightened it (wasn't really loose), and low and behold, three starts later, the check engine light is gone.

does anything think I have anything to worry about?

No problem at all. If it comes back get the code. You should be OK.

You should get the code. There is a known issue with the 272/273 engine with the camshaft sprocket. I heard that about 10% of the engines have the failure. If you're still under warranty, you want to get this fixed as it is very expensive. The only symptom is the check engine light, you won't feel or hear anything. The codes triggered by this failure are numerous: 1200, 1208, 0059, 0060, 0063, 0064, 0271, 0272, 0275. This is fully described in the service bulletin S-B-03.30/08j.

Of course. Check engine is a standard diagnostic for all cars in north america since 1996. Just buy a ODB II scanner at any auto car parts (~100$), plug it under the dash, and read the codes.

Of course, the check engine light went on again. Kept my appt with the dealership. First use of my extended warranty if there is a problem...

Did you read the code? If so, what is it?

I have this same issue with the check engine light for a year now. I brought the vehicle(2006) to the dealership many times and they say its the gas cap. The dealerships performed a couple of gas tank pressure test but that wasn't problem. The dealerships (in NYC) stated that the problem was from a short to an internal module. However the problem persist. I will bring the vehicle to the dealership armed with the service bulletin in hand....I will keep everyone updated.

I suggest you read the code first and then browse the DTBs in Startek info. It's worth spending 18$ for a day. There are many bulletins describing various known issues and related ODB codes. However, I'd expect all dealers to be very familiar with all DTBs.

had the same light. Was on for two days then went off. Took the vehicle in ... exhaust mainfold leak.

Will have the paperwork tomorrow when I go to pick it up. All warranty work.
