About this time last year the workshop was packed with W220 and the known Airmatic problems. We did not see one R251 with a suspension problem. I thought Benz had, at long last, put this issue to sleep.
Wrong, tonight before I finish work in limped a R251 with the right rear on the floor and the Airmatic pump making more noise than the engine eek.
No further details as yet, will keep you informed in the morning.

What a day! Hoovering, dusting, polishing – how's a man supposed to nap when his wife's doing all that?
OK, I have just repaired this W251 4 matic, the car had 92000 km on clock.
Parts changed
1 x Airmatic Pump
1 x Airmatic Relay
1 x Airmatic plastic valve distribution block
Now most of you know I am a manager of a specialist workshop and not in any way connected to the Dealership. I did say this was the first R Class I had seen with the Airmatic problem.
So today I phoned my friend who is the manager over at the Dealers and he shocked me. In his words the R Class has just as many Airmatic issues as the W220 and W221.
Good news is that the Airmatic issues with the W251 normally happen during the warranty stage and that is why I had not seen many of them in my workshop
So if you are thinking of buying one do not be put off by the long running Airmatic saga.
I don't recall seeing any posts on here in the past concerning Airmatic issues w/ the W251... I'd think that if is was as pervasive as that shop manager indicates, we'd see more talk of it here. (BTW, no issues for me thru 35k mi.)

Simply because you have no problems and there have been no posts on this problem before does not mean the problem does not exist. But I did say it is not something to worry about, simply to be aware of
