Valve Body Replacement

Anyone who has an expired warranty should bring up this frequent issue when these things fail around 50K miles. That is the time when warranties fail. Glad that all of you have weighed in on the failed transmission. I would use this thread and show it to the service manager that this is a common occurrance and that they should honor the warranty even if expired.

I have the same problem but my R320, 2008 passed 85000km.
Is MB having recall for the valve body?

Hi,

I don't believe any recalls have been made.

I also had to go in to get 3 things replaced and fixed since then:
1. My passenger side rear hydralic suspension - had to be fully replaced at $1500.
2. New software update on the passenger side climate control. Cost $150.
3. New passenger weigh sensor for airbag deployment. Cost $1300.

I asked my mechanic what is going on here? He told me that the model and year of the GL450 is a Chrysler and eventually MB will work all the parts out of the car. The year of my car is 2007 (manufactured in 2006)

Valve body..

This topic is fresh for me since I just picked up my car 2 days ago with a new valve body. From what I have been told the there are two versions of this part. The early one with problems and the new and improved model. The new one is able to take up dates and has a better functioning design. It is the same one in the new 2011 R class. I have a 2006 R500 with 40K we only have had the car for 3 months. In the first month we had it, the bump happened maybe once a week if that... in the third month it started happening every 3-4 days so we took it in. It was because of this forum that I got it fixed with no problems... I printed out the job order that is now a "sticky" and the tech used the numbers on it and the descriptions to get approval from MB. Thanks BENZWORLD I now have a 2011 valve body in my 2006.. it now shifts smooth and there is no more bump....

The big question is what year did they first upgrade the valve body???

Because if you have the old one it probably will start having problems at it seems around 40k and up just by looking around the forums...

FYI --- They only had my car for two days for the repair. I think the first day was used up just getting the approval from MB..

Yes...

That is the sticky from BENZ O RAMA that made it so easy for me to get my new valve body. I think all 2006 R class cars have the old valve body....

darn! i just had my fluid replaced by the dealer for $500-$400. And I would like to get my vavle body replaced.

When is my next trans interval?

I just got my valve body(and transmission fluid/filter changed) this month at 70k miles for my 2006 R500. This was probably my 5th visit to the 2 MB dealers complaining about the hard 2-1 shift over the past 2yrs, and they finally were able to find the "adaption" records(not error codes) and show MB corp that it was out of specification. Apparently, my prior visits it was still within the range of "acceptable." When I took it in for the final visit, there was no difference between C and S - when in Comfort mode, it wasn't supposed to go into 1st gear, so I KNEW there shouldn't have been a 2-1 shift. The "new" 2011 revised part took a day to order, but I'm glad that they got it because I heard the prior designs still had problems - many people who got the valve body done earlier either had a temporary fix, or it didn't help. Thx to everyone for their input.

Btw, we just got back from ski trip, and it really is sooo nice to have this car - great power, roomy, control, and I don't think anything else on the road can compare. I can't imagine what I would replace this with in 2 yrs when my CPO warranty expires at 100k miles.

Thanks for the info. Did the dealer charge you for the valve body replacement etc.- since I assume you are out of warranty?

The dealer didn't charge for valve body work because the car is still CPO til 7 yrs/100k miles. If I did not have it, however, I would have made a stink by bringing in my prior svc records showing my complaints about the symptoms since before 4 yrs/50k miles. Good luck.
